Honolulu, Hawaii by manaphoto Honolulu, Hawaii by manaphoto
This is an aerial shot of Honolulu, Hawaii I took from a helicopter last year. I gave it an HDR edit with the new tilt-shift filter and I think it came out pretty cool looking...let me know what you think.

Thanks, that's what the tilt shift effect is supposed to do.

Pretty stunning shot, and this is also the first time I've heard about this "tilt shift" effect. Love the vibrant colours and how deceptively "model-like" the scene looks.

Thanks...the tilt-shift effect does a really good job at giving it that model like feel.

The view is phantastic, but I'm not a huge HDR fan and for my taste, the colours are overdone - but they are in most of the T&S tutorials out there. I prefer more natural colors, even though it might not look like a miniature then.

Which tools did you use for HDR and T&S?

Yeah, I know what you mean...I used the HDR and tilt-shift from the new CS6.

Wow, the new CS6? You're pretty up to date, hehe. It always comes down to what you want to accomplish with the T&S. I've just now seen a real nice black and white image of Innsbruck in Austria, my homecountry. It's equally impressive too - even without the colors.

If you want to take a look at my tilt shift images, there's a whole section in my gallery. <nudge, nudge> ;)

I actually remember commenting on your image "Above London Traffic" last year...I think it planted a seed in my head of something I wanted to do.

I love the colors on this, but I noticed the top and bottom are really blurry compared to the middle. It looks really inconsistent and it's a major turn-off.

The shot itself is pretty awesome though.

I'm not familiar with HDR or tilt-shift. What exactly are they?

The blurriness on the top and bottom is the tilt-shift effect, it brings focus to the middle, helping to create that miniature looking scene.
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, you should look it up to get a better understanding.
